In Australia è bufera totale per il messaggio di odio apparso sul profilo Instagram di Israel Folau, giocatore di rugby a 13 e a 15, estremo degli Waratahs e della nazionale dei Kangaroos. Un messaggio, quello scritto dal giocatore, fervente evangelico, che la federazione australiana di rugby ha già descritto come "inaccettabile".

"Coloro che vivono nel peccato andranno all'inferno, a meno che non si pentano, Gesù Cristo li ama e dà loro il tempo di allontanarsi dal peccato e avvicinarsi ad esso" ha aggiunto Folau, cresciuto come mormone e convertito nella comunità delle Assemblee di Dio nel 2011.

Non è la prima volta che il giocatore viene coinvolto in uno scandalo simile. Nel 2018 infatti era stato ampiamente criticato per aver dichiarato: "Io amo e rispetto le persone per quello che sono e le loro opinioni, ma io personalmente non sosterrò mai il matrimonio gay".

Evidentemente però le critiche non sono bastate, perché qualche mese più tardi Folau ha fatto un post per criticare la decisione del parlamento australiano di dare legittimità legale ai matrimoni tra omosessuali.
